ENV 1020 - INTRODUCTION TO ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES credits: 3.0 Is an introduction to the field of environmental science. This course will cover a wide range of subjects important for the study of human impacts on the environment. The course will introduce topics such as environmental laws, ethics, ecosystems, toxicology, nutrient cycling, pollution, and climate change. Objectives: A) Describe environmental processes such as nutrient cycling, carbon cycles, as well as human impacts on soil, water, air, and ecosystems; B) Explore and describe the use of experimental design and the scientific process in our understanding of the environment and human impacts on it; C) Identify the environmental impacts of society locally and globally. Method of Instruction: A combination of lectures, small-large group discussions, and hands-on modeling, where appropriate, will be used as the methods of instruction. Method of Evaluation: Exams 60%, Quizzes 30%, and Case study 10%.
