ENG 3950 - TUTORIALS: CREATIVE WRITING PROJECT credits: 3.0 This course is for creative writers who have demonstrated in previous workshops interest in and ability to benefit from having six weeks to write, in one genre form, a creative project that may not be included in the regular curriculum. Students will have an approved writing proposal as their tutorial objective, reading assignments and required workshops as members of a writing community. Objectives: A) Engage in in-depth conversations with peer-writers about craft, the creative process, and publishing; B) Identify craft techniques in the required reading; C) Articulate the effects of masterful craft techniques (in their reading or in the work of their peers) on their reading experiences; D) Write proficiently in one or more creative literary forms (poetry, fiction or nonfiction); E) Incorporate useful critical responses to their work in subsequent revisions; F) Submit portfolios of writing that demonstrate improvement in integrating themes, genre forms, and techniques based on workshop and tutorial conversations. Method of Instruction: Readings in consultation with the instructor, discussions, writings, and an independent writing project. Method of Evaluation: Workshop Participation (20%), Reading Discussions (20%), Quality of Bi-weekly Writing (30%), and Final Writing Project (30%).
