ENG 3300 - PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATIONS

ENG 3300-MCD 3300  Will foremost practice evaluating rhetorical situations in which written, oral, and multimedia communications are required through the planning and production of an online literary magazine. Students will also create common professional documents like proposals, contracts, rejection/acceptance letters, and perform in conventional interpersonal scenarios like interviews, pitches, and brainstorming sessions.  Inclusion and editorial best practices will be emphasized. While a literary publishing environment will be prioritized, the evaluative methods will be broadly applicable, and students will have the opportunity to adapt many assignments to professional settings of their choosing. The course will also devote extensive time to digital media communications like social networking, texting, teleconferencing, and email. Objectives: Objectives: A) Evaluate rhetorical situations and recognized appropriate modes and conventions for communicating within them; B) Prepare for common professional challenges in digital publishing, including submitting a pitch, writing synopses, soliciting authors, assessing, copy editing, developmental editing and formatting texts, and writing grants and proposals; C) Practice writing, speaking, and digital communications under deadlines with attention to audience and other contexts. Method of Instruction: Peer Workshops, Group work, Modeling, Simulation, and Lecture. Method of Evaluation: Professional Documents, Presentations, and Quizzes.
