ENG 2270 - SHAKESPEARE AND HIS ADAPTATIONS

credits: 3.0
Four hundred years after the death of William Shakespeare, his folios remain a source of inspiration for playwrights, poets, novelists, and filmmakers. Will read a trio of Shakespeare plays, using them primarily as keys for interpreting contemporary texts based upon the plays. Objectives: A) Explicate Renaissance English passages; B) Recognize Shakespearean tropes which remain common in contemporary culture; C) Practice comparative literary analysis based on contemporary critical theory; D) Analyze narrative through its formal elements, particularly genre and medium. Method of Instruction: Discussions. Method of Evaluation: Discussion Questions, Essay, and Exam. Meets *WEP Distribution Requirement.
