ENG 1945 - SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY credits: 3.0 Students will examine the origins and development of the science fiction and fantasy genres. Through analyses of books and movies, students will discuss the nature of basic science fiction and fantasy themes to the socio-political reality of the world, focusing in particular on the 1950s. Objectives: A) An understanding of these visions of the future; B) Critical insight into the society (present) that generates them. Method of Instruction: Film, lecture, large group discussion, small group discussion, and individual work. Method of Evaluation: Brief papers responding to readings, class preparation, participation, and a final capstone project (creative or critical). Meets *WEP Distribution Requirement.
