EDU 3945 - EDUCATION POLICY: A GLOBAL PERSPECT


credits: 3.0
EDU 3945, 3.0 credit version. Will address the implementation of national education policy initiatives in various countries throughout the globe. Students will analyze current debates in the fields of international and comparative education to understand how different theories of education and development influence policy, priorities, and programs of international, national, and local institutions. Will expose students to the diverse approaches to education and develop an understanding of the nature of education policy in the United States in comparison to other nations. Objectives: A) Identify and analyze the salient social, political, cultural, economic, and other factors that affect education policies in selected countries; B) Analyze the effectiveness of a particular education policy in a specific country and compare / contrast that policy to other educational systems; C) Articulate the process by which education policies are enacted and the ways in which adopted policies are consistent with cultural, political and economic values. Method of Instruction: Interviews, discussions, and readings. Method of Evaluation: Daily discussion questions 25, Country Presentation 50, Policy Analysis Paper 50, Cultural Demonstration 20, Interview 30, Participation (graded by the participation rubric) 25. Meets *GLP and *LAS (Liberal Arts and Science) Distribution Requirements.
