ANT 3450 - ECONOMIC ANTHROPOLOGY credits: 3.0 Introduction to the ways in which different societies satisfy their needs and wants through the related processes of production, consumption, distribution and exchange. Students will survey the different theories and perspectives of economic anthropology, and examine the economic arrangements of societies such as (but not limited to): African herding peoples, Amazonian lowland peoples, New Guinea Horticulturalists, Andean agriculturalists, and Belizean farmers. Objectives: To provide students with a range of economic arrangements in different human societies and the theoretical paradigms within the study of economic anthropology. Method of Instruction: Lecture and discussion; group activities, videos and films, and student presentation. Method of Evaluation: Three essay exams; research paper on an approved topic and course participation. Meets *GLP Distribution Requirement.
