ANT 2185 - PEOPLES OF LATIN AMERICA credits: 3.0 An ethnographic survey of contemporary peoples and cultures of Latin America; including Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and South America, including both indigenous and peasant societies. Emphasis is placed on the merging and clashing of European, Indian, and African, rich and poor and the continuing character of these conflicts into the present. Objectives: To provide students with an overview of the diversity of peoples and cultures throughout Latin America and to introduce students to the major theoretical paradigms within the study of Latin American ethnography. Method of Instruction: Lecture and discussion; group workshops, videos and films, and student presentations. Method of Evaluation: Two book analyses, two book reviews, annotated bibliography on a research topic, research paper, and course participation. Meets *NWP Distribution Requirement.
