WMS 2925 - HORROR, GENDER, AND SEXUALITY credits: 3.0 Crosslisted/Same As: ENG 2925 A study of American and European works of horror fiction and film, with a special focus on the portrayal of gender and sexuality. Lecture and discussion topics are informed by feminist criticism, gender studies, psychoanalytic criticism, and media studies. Objectives: A) Examine the ways in which norms and assumptions about gender and sexuality shape the cultural production of American and European horror media; B) Analyze, interpret, and evaluate the representation of gender and sexuality in horror media; C) Apply several critical approaches to horror media; D) Hone critical thinking and writing skills through the study of horror media. Method of Instruction: Lectures, readings, films, small group, and class discussion. Meets *WEP Distribution Requirement.
