This course will address the many areas of victimology. Throughout the course of American criminal justice history, the victim has typically been ignored, and it has only been in recent years that we have begun to focus on the victim, and the many issues involving the victim in the criminal justice system. This course will review the history, specific types of victims, special problems in the criminal justice system related to the victim as well as different victim’s rights movements. Objectives: A) Identify the current laws of victim rights and compare how these have been altered historically; B) Identify the role the victim plays in the criminal justice system; C) Compare the difference between victim precipitation and blaming the victim; D) Identify hypothesis related to crime victim prevention. Method of Instruction: Lecture and in class discussion.
