This is a course in the study of women as hero, a phrase that historically has often seemed oxymoronic. Through literature and film, students will spring from the archetypal notions of a hero into an examination of the ways in which women fit into, alter, reemphasize, and even oppose these orchtypes. Ultimately, students will arrive at their own conclusions as to the degree the “feminine” redefines the notion of a hero and the ramifications of that redefinition.
