EDU 2600 - ARTS-INFUSED LEARNING credits: 3.0 This course examines the teaching methods associated with the arts (music, visual arts, creative writing, and theater) in the preK-12th grade classroom. Students will examine the philosophical underpinnings of art as a means of expression and historical examples of the arts reflecting social movements. Connections to methods and arts teaching skills will be modeled and students will demonstrate the ability to teach the arts across the curriculum. Objectives: A) Describe the philosophical underpinnings of art as expression in order respond to the question, What is art and why is it important in the lives of children and young adults?; B) Discuss examples of how music, visual arts, and theatre reflect social change within a historical context; C) Create learning activities that connect the arts to content across the curriculum. Method of Instruction: Lecture, demonstrations, and performance (teaching the arts). Method of Evaluation: Essays, strategy demonstrations, and modeling teaching the arts.
