ECO 4999 - INTERNSHIP IN ECONOMICS


credits: 3.0
This is a credit variable course for 3.0 OR 6.0 credits. For students interested in working in any field related to Economics (for example: banking, business, consulting, finance, government, public policy, research) and/or for students interested in exploring a career as a professional economist. The internship may include data collection and analysis, economic modeling and applications, research on relevant economic issues or working with professionals in the afore-mentioned fields in a capacity related to the field of Economics. Students will choose a faculty member to supervise the internship. Objectives: A) Will apply disciplinary knowledge in a setting appropriate to the field of Economics; B) Students and supervising faculty members will develop at least one additional course-specific learning outcome for the internship. The student will be evaluated by the faculty member on the basis of the learning outcomes. Method of Instruction: This is an internship. Method of Evaluation: The final grade will be assigned on a P-F basis. Upon completion of the internship, the students on site supervisor will evaluate the students performance using the following criteria: Completion of assigned tasks; professional conduct and appearance; initiative; willingness to work; communication; ability to work with others. The supervisor will also verify that the minimum number of hours has been satisfied. The faculty member will assess the final product that was mutually agreed upon. No student can pass the internship without completing the minimum number of hours for a 3 credit or 6 credit internship. Meets FEX-Career Related Internship Requirements.

Prerequisite(s): Instructor’s Signature Required and ECO 3040 - INTERMEDIATE MICROECONOMICS  and ECO 3041 - INTERMEDIATE MACROECONOMICS , a course in Statistics and at Junior or Senior standing. Also need to complete a contract with the Office of Career Services, before registering for course.
