ECO 2320 - THE GLOBAL ECONOMY credits: 3.0 This course surveys the world economy from a global perspective. It will begin with an examination of the flow of goods, services and capital across international borders. The impact of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and multinational firms on economic growth and international development will be analyzed. The potential and the limits of economic globalisation, especially with respect to natural resources, the environment and inequality will also be studied. Objectives: A) Interpret the patterns of international trade and capital flows; B) Describe the effects of such flows on the economic growth and development of countries; C) Describe the role of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and multinational firms in the global economy; D) Evaluate the potential and limits of globalization. Method of Instruction: Readings, lecture, discussion, and debate. Method of Evaluation: Essay questions on the assigned readings; Tests, quizzes; Research project; and Student presentations. Meets *GLP Distribution Requirement.
