Objectives: A) Identify the main differences in the historical experiences of the northern and southern regions of Italy; B) Evaluate the main differences in economic development between the northern and southern regions of Italy using common economic and social indicators; C) Evaluate the main differences in institutions and culture between the northern and southern regions of Italy through writing assignments and class discussions based on the readings; D) Explain how differences in geography led to a typology of economic activities between the northern and southern regions of Italy; E) Compare one feature of contemporary Italian economy or society that differs between the north and the south and explain it in the context of geographical differences between the regions.
