DAN 1900 - STUDIES IN DANCE: BALLET AND MODERNJAZZ credits: 1.0 This is a credit variable course for 1.5 thru 3.0 credits. This course allows the student to develop an awareness of the body as an expressive instrument through the disciplined forms of classical ballet and modern dance technique. Objectives: A) To offer exploratory experiences in movement which make the student dancer aware of the body’s strengths and limitations; B) To provide the student dancer with informational performing experiences; C) To assist the student dancer in developing awareness of new forms in dance movement including: learning dance phrases from video study of famous choreographers; participation in dance and theatre games; composing dances in different environments; composing dance working with the dancer’s autobiography; and exploring dance in community outreach situations involving children from local schools. Method of Instruction: Lecture and demonstration, participation and involvement, and faculty-student discussion. Method of Evaluation: Attendance (mandatory), participation, involvement, and attitude. Meets *PEW Distribution Requirement.
