EDU 5300 - Principles Of Curriculum Design: K-12


credits: 3.0
Will examine trends in curriculum development from a historical and philosophical perspective. Current research and practice in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation are examined. Students will investigate trends and policies in curriculum design and delivery with a focus on meeting the diverse needs of K-12 students in a diverse, multicultural, and pluralistic society. Objectives: A) Describe the historical and philosophical underpinnings of K-12 curriculum design; B) Analyze current research and practice in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation; C) Compare and contrast curricular frameworks currently used in K-12 schools based on evaluation-implementation research; D) Evaluate the impact of curricula on diverse K-12 populations; E) Investigate K-12 curricula that focus on meeting the needs of K-12 students in a diverse, multicultural, and pluralistic society. Method of Instruction: Lecture, readings, and discussion. Method of Evaluation: Papers, presentations, and exam.

Prerequisite(s): Admission to the MSE program (Literacy or General Education) and RDG 5300 - Adolescent Literacy Through a Developmental Lens  and RDG 5350 - Principles of Literacy Assessment and Intervention (Birth through Grade Twelve)
