RDG 5350 - Principles of Literacy Assessment and Intervention (Birth through Grade Twelve) credits: 3.0 This is an On-Line Masters Level Course.Examines the continuum of assessment administration, data analysis, and progress monitoring as connected to the process of developing and delivering plans of intervention for literacy leaners from birth through the twelfth grade based on the individual needs. Objectives: A) Administer a variety of literacy assessments targeting foundational skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing; B) Analyze individual data in order to identify learner strengths and areas for improvement; C) Analyze classroom data in order to differentiate literacy instruction; D) Develop individual plans of intervention using research-based instructional strategies in order to meet the literacy needs of individuals; E) Demonstrate the process of progress monitoring with individual literacy learners; F) Examine and evaluate resources and approaches for providing assessments and interventions for diverse literacy learners and English Language Learners; G) Create and report case studies of literacy learners receiving interventions. Method of Instruction: Lecture, discussion, and demonstration. Method of Evaluation: Midterm exam, case study report, and classroom demonstration.
Prerequisite(s): Admission into the MSE: Education (General Education or Literacy).
