ENG 4595 - CAPSTONE PROJECT

This course requires students to integrate and apply the skills of their major in a substantive research or portfolio project of their own devising, in consultation with the instructor. In all cases, significant writing and research are involved, along with regular progress reports and meetings with the instructor. Students are encouraged to develop their projects with professional and career goals in mind. Before registration, students must develop a project plan and receive instructor approval. Objectives: A) Identify important topics and issues in literary and cultural studies; B) Plan a project in literary/cultural studies, creative writing, rhetoric and composition, or another established field/subfield in English; C) Assemble and engage with relevant primary and secondary sources; D) Create and revise work or works of writing that demonstrate achievement in critical scholarship, creative writing, rhetoric and composition studies, or another established field/subfield of English. Method of Instruction: Weekly one-hour meetings and regular feedback on work. Method of Evaluation: Attendance 20%, Writing Assignments 30%, Final Project 50%, and graded with standard letter grades. Meets *WRT Requirement.

Prerequisite(s): Senior or Junior standing and at least one 3000-level English course. Instructor’s Signature Required.
