WMS 1200 - WOMEN’S HEALTH credits: 3.0 The study of the unique health needs of women in contemporary society. Focus on maintaining good mental and physical health through the life cycle. Major health concerns will be examined. Objectives: A) Formulate a definition of women’s health; B) Explore the major physical and psychological health concerns of contemporary women on a global level; C) Identify social and cultural factors which influence the health attitudes and behaviors of women throughout the life cycle; D) Identify current and potential resources available for the support and care of women both nationally and globally; E) Indicate the impact of the health care system in the U.S. and globally on women; F) Discuss health intervention strategies for women as they relate to their geographic area; G) Identify factors that have influenced women’s health; H) Compare health issues of global concern and differentiate how they are similar and different from those in the United States. Method of Instruction: Lecture, discussion, and audiovisuals. Meets *GLP Distribution Requirement.
