THE 3141 - STAGE COSTUME DESIGN THEATRE MAJOR


credits: 3.0
An in-depth study of the principles of Costume design. Class sessions are augmented with projects in line, color, spatial relationships, and movement. Objectives: A) Relate theatre history to costume design; B) Relate fashion-costume history to costume design; C) Apply design and directorial concepts to projects; D) Demonstrate mastery of color theory; E) Discuss aesthetics as applied to costume design; F) Create basic costume renderings. Method of Instruction: Students will be asked to read plays and design costumes for them under specific directorial concepts. Students will also critique fellow students’ designs. Class time will also be set aside for demonstrations on the use of water color and other rendering mediums. Method of Evaluation: Students will be evaluated on class projects (40%), on exams (30%) and a final project (30%).
