THE 3121 - SCENIC DESIGN FOR THEATRE MAJORS


credits: 3.0
An in-depth study of the principles of visual design and class sessions are augmented with projects in line, color, spatial relationships, and movement. More specifically, this course will explore the principles of design for the stage, and computer aided design. Objectives: A) Relate scenic design to history; B) Relate design to esthetic, financial, and ethnic analysis; C) Relate design to a variety of theatrical periods and styles; D) Apply design and directorial concepts to projects; E) Demonstrate mastery of elements of design; F) Demonstrate mastery of principles of composition. Method of Instruction: Lecture and demonstration, class discussion, design project assignments which will be reviewed by the class as a whole. There will be an extensive final project to be executed on the final exam day. Method of Evaluation: Students will be evaluated on class projects (40%), on exams (30%) and a final project (30%).

Prerequisite(s): THE 1012 - STAGECRAFT  and THE 2120 - INTRODUCTION TO THEATRICAL DESIGN
