THE 2100 - STAGE LIGHTING AND SOUND credits: 3.0 An in-depth study, both theoretical and applied, of the basic principles of lighting and sound for the stage. More specifically, this course will explore the principles of drafting for the stage, and computer aided design. Objectives: Upon completion of the course students will be able to: A) Work with color media employed in the theatre, B) Operate lighting controls safely and professionally; C) Hang and focus lighting equipment safely; D) Operate sound reinforcement systems professionally; E) Draft basic lighting plots; F) Demonstrate understanding of electrical theory; G) Demonstrate understanding of the principles of sound; H) Work on a lighting or sound crew. Method of Instruction: Lecture and discussion, demonstration and class projects. Class projects will consist of a specific lighting and sound problem, which the student will solve by applying lighting and sound projects in class. There will be an extensive final project to be executed on the final exam day. Method of Evaluation: Students will be evaluated on class projects, on exams and a final project. Meets *MQR Distribution Requirements.
