PSC 1010 - INTRODUCTION TO POLITICS credits: 3.0 Objectives: Aim of this course is to introduce students to the central problems and processes of politics. Will begin with discussion of the relations between politics and everyday life. After discussions of how to develop political opinions, we will turn to a review of the major ideological formulations - Liberalism, Conservatism, and Socialism. Will analyze the major types of political systems, and consider the problems of democracy in capitalist, socialist and in the Third World countries. Finally, will discuss the major styles and strategies of participation in politics (elections, pressure group activity, demonstrations, revolution, and etc). Method of Instruction: Classes will usually involve lecture and discussion. Method of Evaluation: Writing assignments, quizzes, final exam.
