MGT 2240 - PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT credits: 3.0 Course is designed to serve as an introduction to and overview of the practical concepts used for organizational management. We will cover the four primary functions of management, which include planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. As part of this process you will learn about the science of management by analyzing research in regard to relevant topics such as strategic management, decision-making, organizational behavior, human resource management, and leadership. We will also examine the art of management by studying the inherent challenges in applying theory in todays dynamic organizational environments. At the conclusion of the course the student will have a firm understanding of the role of a manager within an organization. Method of Instruction: Lecture, discussion, case analyses, and group projects. Method of Evaluation: Homework, quizzes, exams, and a group project.
