HMS 1030 - INTRODUCTION TO ART THERAPY credits: 3.0 Crosslisted/Same As: ART 1030 ART 1030 -HMS 1030. Will provide opportunities for exploring the basic tenets of the field of art therapy through an overview of its historical background and theoretical structures. Will also provide an overview of prominent contributors within the field, what art therapists do, where art therapists work, and how various media can be used to affect behavioral, emotional, and psychological changes. Objectives: A) Describe the foundations of art therapy theory and practice; B) Identify major contributions within the discipline of art therapy; C) Explain the roles of art therapists in various settings; D) Analyze and assess the uses of various media appropriate to art therapy; E) Apply course concepts in art therapy to real world settings. Method of Instruction: Lectures, Reading Assignments, Research Assignments, and Studio Art Assignments. Method of Evaluation: Class attendance and participation is required.
