BIO 1010 - THE BIOLOGICAL WORLD I

Term IIIA Course - Nine weeks. A study of man as a living organism in relationship to the physical and biological world. Is designed to enable the non-science major to understand and appreciate man’s role in a complex biological system and to have sufficient grasp of biological concepts as to enable him to operate intelligently in modern society. Objectives: A) Understand and utilize the different methods of obtaining scientific information; B) Understand the basic life processes of organisms; C) Understand the genetic mechanisms involved in cellular processes and human reproduction; D) Understand the functions of human organ systems. E) Understand the basic mechanisms which control life processes. F) Understand the mechanisms by which life forms evolve; G) Understand and appreciate man’s relationships with the physical and biological environment; H) Recognize and use reliable sources of scientific information; I) Understand how knowledge of other living forms helps man to understand himself. Method of Instruction: Lecture, laboratory and discussion. Method of Evaluation: Quizzes, exams, lab activities, and contribution to class. Meets *PLS Distribution Requirement.
