ART 2200 - ELECTRONIC ART STUDIO credits: 3.0 Crosslisted/Same As: MCD 2200 ART 2200-MCD 2200 This introductory electronic studio art course utilizes digital image-video-audio editing software (freeware and proprietary) in conjunction with Internet resources. Class projects will provide students with skills needed to create digital content to be used with website-blog technology and on-line publishing-marketing. Areas covered include basic digital photography and image capture; creating and editing video and audio files; basic desktop publishing; on-line presentation and marketing of art. This course is valuable to non-art majors who desire a working knowledge of digital art and graphic design. The final project will be a combination of any of the following: a blog, website, video or audio file, on-line publication, or product that may be purchased through the Internet. Objectives: Using computer technology and the Internet as a method of artistic expression, students will: A) Create and edit digital files that can be accessed electronically on the Internet or as DVDs; B) Create and edit video and audio files for Internet distribution; C) Create and edit image and text files for online publication (website or blog); D) Create a logo for products offered on a commercial website; E) Create a publication (book, magazine, poster, postcard, etc.) using original images and text; F) Collaborate with classmates to create a class book featuring sample work from students; G) Upload a final project to the World Wide Web (can be a blog, website, video, audio file, or on-line publication or product that may be purchased through the Internet). Method of Instruction: Demonstration, lecture, discussion, critique, hands-on in-class assignments, gallery visits, and-or field trips. Method of Evaluation: Group critiques of works in progress for each assignment; final projects will demonstrate the application of skills learned throughout the course; final critique will require students to write short commentary evaluating a classmate’s work for creative conceptualization of ideas and effective application of techniques.
