ARH 3111 - ANCIENT ART


credits: 3.0
ARH 2111  and ARH 3111. Students will analyze and interpret ancient art within the historical, political, religious, and geographical context of the Mediterranean world. Objectives: A) To identify and interpret various art works through the use of slides; B) To examine the similarities and differences of various art forms through time and by geographical area; C) To examine the develpment of various art forms through time and by geographical are; D) To study the influence of ancient art on contemporary art. Method of Instruction: Informal presentations by instructor with the use of slides. Class discussion of topics relevant to the course. Students must present their research paper with a PowerPoint presentation. Method of Evaluation: Research paper/MS Powerpoint (25%).The research paper will be due in three stages: outline/bibliography, draft, second draft (optional), final version. The grade will be lowered by a full grade point if not handed in on time. Quizzes will consist of slide identification. Midterm and final exams will consist of slide identification and essays ARH 3111 course only meets the *WRT Distribution Requirement.

Prerequisite(s): ARH 2100 - INTRO ART HISTRY:PREHSTRIC GOTHIC  (or) HIS 2100 - ANCIENT NEAR EAST
