RDG 5430 - Principles Of Literacy Leadership


credits: 3.0
Will examine the critical role of the literacy leader within the K-12 school setting. Specifically, the focus is the role of the reading specialist and literacy coach within the elementary, middle, to high school setting. Adult learning theory as it relates to the school setting is investigated and models for professional development are explored. Objectives: A) Describe adult learning theory as it relates to the K-12 setting; B) Evaluate the research base and effectiveness of reading and writing programs; C) Identify the strengths and weaknesses of various models of professional development; D) Compare and contrast the roles of reading specialists and literacy coaches based on their settings; E) Demonstrate the ability to deliver adult-centered professional development. Method of Instruction: Readings, Lecture, and Collaborative Group Discussions. Method of Evaluation: Presentations, Research Paper, and Exam.
