EDU 3355 - CURRICM, INSTRUCT & ASSMNT CHLD:MATH, SCI, TEC

Students will develop knowledge and skills in the methods of teaching math, science, and technology to elementary school children in grades one through six. Students plan, implement, and assess mathematics and science lessons that emphasize hands-on inquiry experiments and problem solving strategies that are based on State Common Core, and National Standards. Students integrate appropriate technology in their instructional practices and improve their knowledge of both math and science content and processes by applying these concepts to teaching. Objectives: A) Design, implement, and assess units and lessons in the subject areas such as math, science and technology; B) Develop lessons using an interdisciplinary thematic design (e.g. math, science, and technology) and the New York State National, and Common Core learning standards; C) Create and align assessment tools with performance objectives of lessons created; D) Develop lessons that engage learners in using computer technology; E) Create lessons that incorporate activities for diverse learners; F) Create assessment tools and ways to adapt them for learners with special needs; G) Present lessons; H) Review and critique lessons; I) Develop a classroom management plan; J) Critiques articles on effective instructional methods used in schools across the nation and abroad. Method of Instruction: Teaching methods include lecture, discussions, problem-solving, student collaboration, and tutoring. Method of Evaluation: Class participation, essays and critiques, quizzes and tests, and classroom unit and management plan.

Prerequisite(s): JUNIOR STANDING and EDU 3335 - CURR, INSTR & ASSESS CHLD: SOCSTD & ART  and EDU 3345 - LIT ACQUISITION & DEVLP PRESCH & EL SCH LEARNERS
