EDU 3300 - METHODOLOGIES OF TEACHING: EARLYCHILDHOOD EDUCATION

This course emphasizes assessing and implementing teaching methods and materials in Pre-K through Grade 2 classrooms. Specifically, teaching and learning is studied in relation to how children learn, how the learning space and content curriculum is organized and used, and how school home and community resources can be used to guide and support the teaching and learning process. Objectives: A) Establish a classroom environment that reflects a philosophical view of Early Childhood teaching and learning. B) Organize, use, and assess learning centers for developmentally appropriate teaching materials. C) Design and implement a safe and healthy learning environment. D) Design and implement methods, materials, and assessments that promote children’s physical, cognitive, creative, social, linguistic, and emotional development. E) Demonstrate strategies that establish and maintain effective home-school community relationships and other community resources. F) Demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively with others to assess and develop Early Childhood programs. Method of Instruction: Discussion, group work, lecture, simulations, and field visits. Method of Evaluation: Class participation (5%), mid-term (20%), position papers (20%), individual project (20%), class project (20%), and final (15%).
