EDU 5555 - Practicum And Seminar: Students With Disabilities. credits: 3.0 This course is a graduate level course.Practicum EDU 5555 provides candidates for NYSED Students with Disabilities Grades 7-12 Generalist initial or professional certification. Candidates will complete a minimum of 50 clock hours in a supervised educational setting that serves grades 7-12 students with disabilities. Practicum experiences include collaborate with education professionals in providing supports for students with disabilities, administering progress monitoring assessments, analyzing data to make instructional decisions, implementing IEPs and 504 plans, developing and implementing instructional plans based on the Universal Design for Learning, and providing support for students enrolled in the host teacher’s class or classes. Objectives: A) Collaborate with education professionals to provide support for students with disabilities; B) Administer progress monitoring assessments; C) Analyze assessment data in order to make instructional decisions; D) Implement IEPs and 504 plans; E) Develop and implement plans for providing support for students based on the Universal Design for Learning; F) Construct a case study of a student with disabilities using assessment data, analysis, and documentation of progress. Method of Instruction: Practicum experience - 50 clock hours, supervised by a professionally certified teacher and an Elmira College instructor and Weekly seminars with an Elmira College instructor. Method of Evaluation: Documentation of collaboration with classroom teacher(s), for example, agenda notes, memos 25; Log of contact hours in host site 25; Progress monitoring tables/notes based on formative assessments 50; Instructional plans/alterations based on assessment data analysis 50; Case Study of student learning, including IEP and 504 implementation information 100. Practicum courses are pass/fail. The criteria for success is 80% proficiency. Candidates who do not earn 200 points will receive a failing grade and will be required to re-take their practicum.
