MAT 4510 - INTERNSHIP IN MATHEMATICS


credits: 3.0
This is a credit variable course for 3.0 OR 6.0 credits. An investigation of professional responsibilities related to the students interest in mathematics. This may include experiences in industry, education, research or anything else similarly related to a career in mathematics. Each student will choose a member of the mathematics faculty to supervise the internship. Objectives: A) Apply and test mathematical knowledge in a professional setting; B) Articulate the knowledge and skills necessary for success within the field; C) Communicate relevant mathematics effectively both verbally and in writing. The student will be evaluated by the faculty member on the basis of these learning outcomes. Method of Instruction: This is an internship. Method of Evaluation: The faculty member will evaluate the final paper and presentation. No student can pass the internship without completing the minimum number of hours for a 3 credit or 6 credit internship. Will be evaluated on an S-D-F basis. Meets FEX-Career Related Internship Requirements.

Prerequisite(s): Junior or Senior Standing, supervising instructor’s signature required or permission of the supervising member of the mathematics faculty. Also need to complete a contract with the Office of Career Services, before registering for course and MAT 2090 - STATISTICAL METHODS  and MAT 3050 - LINEAR ALGEBRA
