HIS 2550 - EUROPE SINCE 1945 credits: 3.0 Course will provide a deep exploration of the history of Europe in the decades after World War II. With a consideration of the legacy of that war-the economic, political, ideological, and social chaos left after the devastation wrought by Hitler and Stalin-and conclude with the aftermath of the collapse of the Soviet Union and the fall of the Iron Curtain. Objectives: A) Identify, describe, and explain key people and events in the history of Europe since 1945; B) Identify, describe, and explain key cultural and ideological development in Europe since 1945; C) Compare and contrast the experiences of different countries during this period; D) Compare and contrast the experiences of people from different ethnic, religious, and national backgrounds. Method of Instruction: Lecture and discussion Method of Evaluation: Three to four in-class exams; two papers on assigned primary sources; quizzes, and short in-class exercises. Meets *WEP Distribution Requirement.
