FSH 3260-MER 3260 -MGT 3260 -MKT 3260 . A study of the retailing segment of marketing with emphasis on concepts and structures. This course offers cutting-edge coverage of the latest topics and developments in retailing. It provides a strategic look at retailing, including current coverage, and the organization involved in a strategic decision-making model. Numerous examples of retailers, ranging from global to local, and their practices, along with interesting retail facts and concepts, will be reviewed and discussed. Objectives: The objective of the course is to familiarize students with the major decisions retailers make, e.g. developing strategies, buying, merchandising, financing, location/place strategies, and the interior-exterior arrange­ment. The course is divided into eight major learning subjects: A) An Overview of Strategic Retail Management; B) Perspectives on Situation Analysis; C) Targeting Customers and Gathering Information; D) Choosing a Store Location; E) Managing a Retail Business; F) Managing Merchandise and Pricing; G) Communicating with the Customer; H) Putting the Retail Strategy all together. Method of Instruction: Lectures, case studies, class discussions, guest speakers, assigned readings and field trips. Method of Evaluation: Quizzes, exams, assignments, case studies and term project. COURSE FEE: Tentative and Optional Course NYC Field Trip: The course will offer an optional and tentative NYC field trip. If you attend the tentative and optional course field trip, a course fee (for travel / meals expenses) will be applied. IF you do NOT attend the trip, THERE IS NO COURSE FEE, trip fees apply only if attend trip. The course field trip fee will be discussed at the first day of class if you opt to take this field trip.
