BIO 1020L - GENERAL BIOLOGY LABORATORY I credits: 1.0 ENROLLMENT IS RECOMMENDED ONLY FOR THOSE MAJORING IN ONE OF THE SCIENCES. This is the laboratory component of the first of a two-term introductory Biology course designed for the science major. The purpose of this course is to give students hands-on training in the concepts encountered in the basic biological sciences. Students will learn basic laboratory techniques utilized in the biological sciences. Objectives: A) Develop and demonstrate principles of inquiry, observation, data collection, data interpretation, and deductive reasoning; B) Develop and demonstrate the ability to safely perform laboratory experiments and generate scientific data; C) Demonstrate the professional use of technical language in the biological sciences. Method of Instruction: Laboratory demonstration, lecture, and hands-on experimentation. Method of Evaluation: Grading for this course will be based on; satisfactory completion of Pre-laboratory assignments (20%) laboratory reports (60%) and the demonstration of safe and proper laboratory practices (20%). Meets *MQR Distribution Requirements when successfully complete BIO 1020 and BIO 1020L. LAB FEE: $125.00.
